With NFL free agency set to kick off this week, AJ McCarron will certainly be a name we hear plenty about as a handful of quarterbacks look for new teams on the open market.
Thanks to his grievance win last month, McCarron will be an unrestricted free agent, meaning he can sign with any team without fear that the Cincinnati Bengals could match the offer and retain him.
McCarron has made it clear that he wants the opportunity to compete for a starting job.
And a new report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Monday suggests that one of the teams in need of a veteran quarterback, the Denver Broncos, could turn to McCarron at some point during free agency. He just may not be plan A.
McCarron and Denver coach Vance Joseph have some familiarity with each other, as Joseph was an assistant with the Bengals from 2014-16.
McCarron will be entering his fifth season in the NFL in 2018. Free agency begins on Wednesday, March 14 at 4 p.m. ET.
