Philip Hammond undermines PM on eve of Brexit talks as he says 'no deal would be a very bad outcome'

Philip Hammond has undermined the Prime Minister's mantra that "no deal is better than a bad deal" on the eve of Britain's Brexit talks, after he suggested that "no deal would be a very, very bad outcome for Britain."

The Chancellor said he would not agree to a deal that would "destroy" Britain just hours before the official Brexit negotiations begin.

Theresa May has said the offer of an unfavourable trade deal with the EU would prompt her to quit talks and insisted that “no deal for Britain is better than a bad deal”.
