Liverpool preparing €50m bid for Gelson Martins if Salah deal stalls

The Reds have had a £28million bid for Salah rejected with the Italian club looking for around £35million, which Liverpool have so far refused to meet.

Klopp’s side have been forced to monitor several alternatives and A Bola report a bid is being prepared in case negotiations with Roma stall.

Liverpool also have a definite interest in Bayern Munich wide man Douglas Costa and have considered a swoop for Lazio’s Keita Balde Diao.

After an impressive 2016/17 campaign, Gelson has attracted interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs, with Barcelona admitting they were monitoring the wingers progress back in October. He thrived on the big stage for Sporting, with one of his most eye-catching performances coming against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League group stages.

Gelson’s current contract at Sporting runs until 2022 and reportedly includes a €60m release clause. The Reds, though, are cautiously optimistic of landing the Portuguese international for a fee just less than £40m.

Like Salah, Gelson’s usual position is based on the right hand side of the attack. He netted 7 goals alongside 14 assists in 44 appearances at club level last season with another 4 assists coming in his first 5 five caps for national side Portugal.
